The San Diego History Center hosts dozens of public programs and special events every year. Our popular adult programs include walking tours, lectures, exhibition receptions, curators’ talks, happy hours, fashion events, multi-media presentations, films, musical presentations, symposia and collaborative events with other cultural and educational institutions. We also offer family-themed programs such as readings and workshops, and we participate in Balboa Park-wide events such as Family Days and holiday celebrations.

In February 2018, the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art (SDAAMFA) hosted at the San Diego History Center its first annual recognition of individual’s whose contributions have resulted in retaining and expanding the cultural expressions that are uniquely African American. This recognition has become exceedingly important during this time when we see the rich, and diverse array of aesthetics, expressions and styles inherent in African American culture continue to be limited or all together omitted by major institutions.Find out more »
