BOOK REVIEWS
Richard H. Peterson, Book Review Editor

The Natural World of the California Indians. By Robert F. Heizer and Albert B. Elsasser. Berkeley: University of California Press, 1980. 271 pages. $12.95.

A convenient survey of California Indian ethnography, this informative volume describes how Indians defined tribelet territories, shows how cultural areas related to bioregional boundaries, discusses the patterns of village life, and explains the nature and uses of Indian tools and artifacts. A brief concluding chapter summarizes the tragic impact of the whites on aboriginal California.
