Views of Los Angeles. Text and contemporary photographs
by Gernot Kuehn. Los Angeles: Portriga Publications, 1978. 138 pages. $12.95.
The author has assembled 125 black and white photographs of
greater Los Angeles. The book contrasts photographs taken during the past-the
earliest being 1864-with photographs taken in 1978 from the same point of view.
The result is an intriguing juxtaposition which provides graphic evidence of the
good and bad consequences of modernization. In short, this volume is a
provocative before-and-after portrait of Los Angeles.
