Spreckels Organ Society

POSTCARD
Spreckels Organ, Balboa Park, San Diego
postcard from California Pacific Exposition, 1935

The Spreckels Organ Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 by Vivian Evenson, President, and other supporters. Under the auspices of the Spreckels Organ Society, the instrument has been improved, pipes have been added, programming increased and guest recitalists hired for frequent performances.

Free organ concerts are held in Balboa Park from 2-3 pm every Sunday of the year and on Monday evenings at 8 pm during the summer. Here is the current schedule of free organ concerts.

This grand outdoor organ was donated to the citizens of San Diego by John D. and Adolph Spreckels for the Panama-California Exposition, which was held in Balboa Park in 1915-16. The organ was built by the Austin Organ Company of Hartford, CT (they also built the organ for the Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco) and they continue to make organs today.
