The Sacramento Valley Building was the first building on the Plaza de Panama to be destroyed. It was replaced by William Templeton Johnson's building, now the San Diego Museum of Art.

The Home Economy Building stood on the northeast corner of the Plaza de Panama, across from the Foreign Arts Building (now the House of Hospitality). In its place today stands the modern, box-like Timken Gallery. The Science and Education Building stood across from it on the northwest side of the Plaza de Panama. In recent years, public opinion seems to be shifting in favor of returning these two buildings to their previous glory.
