Authors Hannah Cohen and Gloria Harris document the diverse legacy of formidable female leaders from San Diego, including better known figures like Ellen Browning Scripps and Belle Benchley (the first female zoo director) to others like Luisa Moreno who established the United Fish Cannery Workers Union, and Bertha Pendleton the first female and first African American San Diego school superintendent.

The San Diego History Center and the Congress of History are co-sponsoring a special morning for all area historical societies. “Building to the Next Level: Forum for Local History Groups” will feature vital topics like building your membership and volunteer base, developing partnerships with other community players, using social media for fundraising and marketing, going after grants, and audience engagement.
