According to additional information provided on 10/2011 by a member of the E.H. Davis Project Scholar Advisory Committee: The Black Cross would have led the funeral procession and been carried by a close male relative to the deceased. The crowd is primarily wearing dark colors, a mourning practice customary to Kumeyaay funeral.
