(Documentary Artifact): One b/w photographic print of Guadaloupe Arenas and her child, Lataria (or Lotaria). Guadaloupe Arenas pounds mesquite beans in a wooden mortar. According to Davis’ notebook (Notebooks 16 and 17), Davis purchased from Arenas a wooden mortar and pestle which came from Arenas’ grandmother, Rufina Rice of Banning.
Same image as the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) print, P02338. The wooden mortar and pestle are in the collection of NMAI, objects 072272.000 and 072243.000.
