Step inside the museum to explore early San Diego history and take home a free historic photo from the San Diego History Center’s collection—one per person\, while supplies last. \nJoin us for a special free walking tour of the Presidio de San Diego to celebrate 96 years since the Junípero Serra Museum’s opening day in July 1929. Step into the museum and take home a free historic photo from the San Diego History Center’s collection – one free photo per person. \nThe presidio site is buried underground on the hillside below the Junípero Serra Museum. The tour highlights the historical significance of this site\, and how the unique river and marine environment have attracted people to the surrounding area throughout history. Discover how archaeologists and historians have been able to understand what buildings and structures were there and reconstruct what they may have looked like. \nAfterwards\, browse the exhibits inside the Serra Museum. You can listen to stories of the descendants of those who settled in the area\, including the Kumeyaay people\, who lived along the river’s edge since time immemorial. Learn about the ranging experiences of the communities that lived in the Presidio through time. \nLed by SDHC staff or volunteers\, this tour is offered regularly at the Serra Museum for a fee and is also available to book for private parties. \n*Please note that at this time the Serra Museum is not ADA accessible. This walking tour will cover several different elevations\, consisting of uneven surfaces and paths\, some sloped or with stairs\, and few with handrails.
