His is a story with prominent themes of overcoming staggering obstacles\, forging something-from-nothing\, and evincing gritty perseverance. In a lifetime of hard-won progress\, Harrison survived the horrors of slavery in the Antebellum South\, endured the mania of the California Gold Rush\, and prospered in the rugged chaos of the Wild West including being the San Diego’s first Black pioneer\, homesteading in Palomar Mountain in the early 20th century. \nDr. Seth Mallios\, SDSU Professor of Anthropology\, and author of a book on Harrison’s life will lead a virtual tour of the new exhibition\, Nathan Harrison:  Born Enslaved\, Died a San Diego Legend. Dr. Mallios and his students will take Zoom participants on a behind-the-scenes viewing of the exhibition\, demonstrating how we have used augmented reality to bring the excavation of Nathan Harrison’s homestead to life. \nAnd as a BONUS\, Dr. Tina Zarpour\, Vice President- Community Engagement\, Education\, and Collections at the San Diego History Center will take guests through the new Celebrate: San Diego Black History & Heritage exhibition including the community source elements of the Black San Diego Timeline and Nominate a Local Hero initiatives. \n				\n			 \n			 \n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n					To see the virtual opening\, click below! \n				\n			 \n				VIEW HERE\n			\n			 \n				\n				\n			 \n				\n				\n			 			\n			\n
