SUMMARY:Uncovering the Secret City
DESCRIPTION:\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Uncovering the Secret City\nTuesday\, Dec 13th\, 2022\n12:00-01:00 pm \n \n \n \n \n \n Artist Evan Apodaca will be discussing his conceptual framework\, research method and technological process in the making of Secret City an ongoing multi-platform video series that critically analyzes the military’s shaping of San Diego and explores the history of the antiwar movement in the region. The discussion will explore Monumental Interventions\, his most recent cycle within the series. By transposing facial motion capture with interviews into the scenes\, Apodaca creates an interplay between dream-like illusions and polemic critical analysis. \n \n \n \n \n \n About the Presenter\nEvan Apodaca is a media artist known for his film\, Que Lejos Estoy\, which streamed nationally on PBS in 2016. Apodaca received his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2009 and is currently based in San Diego\, California. His work explores new forms of narrative nonfiction through methods of public engagement and innovative digital media interfaces. In 2018 he was the Associate Producer and Animator for\, Singing My Way to Freedom\, an award winning feature film about musician and civil-rights activist\, Ramon “Chunky” Sanchez. Apodaca’s work consists of short films and video installations that examine themes of race\, family history\, cultural assimilation\, political activism and most recently militarism in the San Diego region. His films have also screened at the Chicano International Film Festival (LA)\, the Tijuana Film & Food Festival and the San Diego Latino Film Festival.
