“It took a couple of days, as a rule, to get them across (from National City to San Diego) because there weren’t any roads, you know. We took them generally across what is National Avenue. Well, there were enough bridges and so on across the places there so we could. …Those two three-story houses in Chula Vista were rolled down E Street on rollers and onto some barges down at the bay and shoved across the bay over onto the beach at Glorietta Bay, and I believe somebody fixed them up as boarding houses over there at Coronado.
