Deep Enough: A Working Stiff in the Western Mine Camps. By Frank A. Crampton. Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, 1982. Maps. Illustrations. Index. 281 pages. $16.95.
This is a reprint, with new foreword, maps and illustrations, of the 1958 edition of Deep Enough. The book is a reminiscence by Frank A. Crampton of his experiences as a hobo, hard rock miner, surveyor, assayer, and mining engineer in the western United States, from 1904 to 1918. Because of the wide range of his experiences and the liveliness of his narrative, Crampton’s book has become a widely read source for western and mining history.
