The San Diego YWCA: A Short History, 1907-1982. By Clare Crane. San Diego: YWCA of San Diego County, 1982. Illustrations. Appendix. 36 pages.

The San Diego YWCA celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1982 and this history was prepared to commemorate that event. Relying heavily on oral history interviews, the booklet traces the organization from preliminary discussions in 1887, through the occupation of its first club room in 1907, the construction of its permanent home in 1927, to the decentralization of the YWCA after World War II. The brief history also mentions some of the early leaders, some major programs, and includes a brief statement setting out the YWCA’s relationship to Christianity. A useful appendix offers lists of executive officers and boards of directors from the beginning through 1982.
