Holy Cross Mission: A Documentary History of Santa Cruz. Edited by Francis J. Weber. Hong Kong: The Libra Press Limited, [1984]. 163 Pages. $18.00
The most recent volume in Francis Weber’s documentary history series on the California missions deals with Santa Cruz. The mission is apparently best known for its idyllic pastoral setting. Weber’s collection of forty nine items covers his usual range of materials – original documents, contemporary narratives, magazine articles, poetry and essays. Like other volumes in the series, Holy Cross Mission includes no index or bibliography with the expectation that comprehensive ones will be published for the entire series. The review copy included several unprinted pages, so exercise care if you purchase a copy.
