Hotel Del Coronado. By Thomas J. Morrow and William Sullivan. Coronado: Hotel Del Coronado. 1984. Photographs. 72 pages. $6.95 Paperbound.
The Hotel Del Coronado’s recent oversized (9″ x 12″) color publication is too much of an advertising vehicle to be taken seriously as a history of the grand old institution. Its brief text outlines the history of the origin and construction of the hotel, some of the famous and infamous who have stayed there over the years, and describes some of the appointments of the hotel. Hotel Del Coronado also includes boxed biographies of current executives and a directory of various services. The glory of the volume, however, is the superb selection of photographs. They range from old black and whites to modern color pictures and they are a visual and historical treat.
