Miramar Before the Planes. By Ruby Peters. San Diego: Ruby Peters. 1984. Illustrations. Maps. Bibliography. 172 Pages. Price Unavailable.
This book is about the rural settlement and one room school which occupied Miramar from 1890 to 1950. It has a lot of information and a lot of old pictures. As such the book contains useful materials for future historians to work with. The book, however, is episodic with brief sketches (often only a page or two long) of a variety of topics, but without overriding organization, theme or thesis. Anyone who ever lived in Miramar before the U.S. Navy, or who attended the school there, will certainly want to read Miramar Before the Planes. It will be like browsing through a community’s family album.
