One Hundred Years of Leadership and Service. Chinese Community Church Centennial Celebration.
San Diego: Chinese Community Church. 1985. Illustrations. 88 Pages.
As part of its centennial celebration, the Chinese Community Church in San Diego has prepared a history of its congregation. It includes a very useful chronology beginning with 1885 and the opening of the Chinese Mission School and ending with 1985 and the Centennial Celebration. That is followed by a brief history by David Seid, Dorothy Horn and Karl Fung, which traces the evolution of the church with a heavy emphasis on the people involved. The remainder of the book is filled with photographs of people and activities, copies of basic documents and newspaper clippings about the church. The history makes a contribution to our understanding of the San Diego Chinese community, and to our knowledge of San Diego religious and church history. It will also be a useful reference work in the future for the identification of many San Diegans who have been involved with the Chinese Community Church over the years. Would that every church in San Diego would prepare such a history!
