Fremont: Explorer for a Restless Nation.  By Ferol Egan. Paperback Edition, Reno: University of Nevada Press, 1985. Map. Illustrations. Bibliography. Index. 582 Pages. $16.75 Paper.

The University of Nevada Press has brought out a paper edition of the popular 1977 biography of John Charles Fremont, Ferol Egan’s Fremont: Explorer for A Restless Nation. This is a long, but highly respected and very readable biography of the man who did so much to bring California into the United States, and who had frequent San Diego connections. In a foreword to the paperback edition, Richard Dillon has written a biographical sketch of the author and explains how he came to be a prize winning historian and writer of the American west.
