The California State Library, through the California Center for the Book, has been very active in efforts to stimulate public interest in books, reading, and elimination of illiteracy. This latest publication is a directory of ninety-seven organizations which provide or administer a wide variety of activities relating to those interests. The listings include such organizations as governmental agencies, libraries, conferences and workshops, publishers, writers and book organization; the appendix adds a list of literacy campaign grantees. The entries describe the organization, its activities, sources of support and publications. San Diego is represented by the San Diego Booksellers Association, the Christian Writer Guild, Writers/Editors Guild, and the Writers Workshop. Users should be warned that the index is limited in scope and in on way indicitive of everything in the book.
