Day Outings From San Diego On a Tank of Gas.

Second edition. By Matt Gandall. San Diego: Premier Image, 1994. Illustrations. [x] + 193 pages. $13.95 (paper). Buy this book.

The new edition of Matt Gandall’s Day Outings is a well organized, attractively illustrated guide book to some two hundred sites lying within San Diego, Orange, Riverside, Imperial, and Los Angeles Counties. The sites described in this guide comprise a potpourri of attractions for the professional and avocational historian and naturalist, as well as for the tourist. All of these places can be reached within a one day’s drive from San Diego, and the book provides essential information about each destination.

While Gandall gives due attention to such well known attractions as Lake Arrowhead, Universal Studios, Disneyland, and Balboa Park, he does not neglect the myriad of lesser known sites which include San Diego’s Immigrant Trail and Riverside’s Jurupa Mountains Cultural Center. Day Outings promises to serve its readers as a valuable key for gaining access to Southern California’s many natural and cultural resources.
