Driving the Vote for Equality

May 2, 2:00 pm–5:00 pm

In 1916, suffragists Alice Burke and Nell Richardson crossed the United States in a bright yellow Saxon roadster called The Golden Flyer to advocate for women’s right to vote. One of their historic stops was Balboa Park.

On May 2, The Golden Flyer returns to Balboa Park as part of a commemorative cross‑country journey. Visit the San Diego History Center from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. to explore California suffrage campaign artifacts, enjoy hands‑on activities, and see this iconic automobile up close. Guests will also have the opportunity to sit inside the historic car and take photos.

Join us inside the Museum at 3:00 pm for a presentation welcoming the Golden Flyer and the women behind the commemorative road trip. You can learn more about the road trip and the car here: https://drivingthevote.org/
