(Documentary Artifact): One b/w photographic print of an outdoor portrait of a young Yaqui Indian boy, Francisco, dressed as a deer. Catalog log states: ‘Francisco as venado at Vicam. Boy is Yaqui wearing antlered deer head on his head and cocoon rattles on his ankles & waist. Carrying gourd rattles in each hand. The deer dancer appears only with pascolas who dance and clown to amuse the crowd at ceremonies such as children’s funerals, saint’s day fiestas, weddings and Holy Week ceremonies always accompanied by musicians playing either a drum & whistle or harps and violins.’
