(Documentary Artifact): Two b/w photographic prints of a view of a young child wearing a shirt, on a woven mat outside of kitchen area. Notes on the verso of the print state: ‘Brush-sheltered kitchen area with young children, chickens & cooking equipment – Including a stone mano & metate on elevated forked log platform. The infant crawls on a twilled carrizo mat. A second mat (of different weave) hangs to the left. The mats, made by men as well as women, are used in house construction and for sleeping while lighter ones of palmetto are used for seats or sleeping cushions.’
