SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTES:
Contains glass plate negatives primarily from the early 1900s with views of Coronado, San Diego Bay, downtown San Diego, Old Town, Point Loma, Ocean Beach, La Jolla, Mission Valley, and the back country. Subjects include Tent City, Hotel del Coronado, beaches, piers, lighthouses, ships and boats, Japanese sailors, a parade with floats and marching bands, wagons and carriages drawn by horses or mules, L. N. Skinner’s furniture store, Sweetwater Dam, the U.S.-Mexico boundary marker, and a portrait of “Reuben the Guide.” Of special note, several photographs of a private sanitarium established in 1900 by pioneer San Diego physician Dr. David Gochenauer that later became Agnew Hospital.
