PROMISED GIFTS

The San Diego History Center welcomes promised gifts of fine art, decorative art, fine craft or historic artifacts that advance our mission and augment or expand our existing collections. The History Center gives careful consideration to such gifts prior to accepting them. We ask that gifts be made in the areas in which we collect and that you if you have intentions to leave one or more pieces to the History Center in your estate plan, that you notify us of your intentions beforehand to allow us to review and advise as to whether your proposed donation is suitable for our collections.

All donations must undergo curatorial review before being accepted. The first step in the process is to email photographs of the item accompanied by detailed descriptions and how the item was obtained.

After receiving your information, your material will be reviewed to determine if the item is appropriate for addition to the San Diego History Center’s collections. After review, a representative from the Collections Department will contact you with a decision.

If the object is accepted for the collections and the donor wishes to declare it as a tax deduction, the donor is responsible for obtaining an appraisal.

An appointment is necessary to review all potential promised donations. Items dropped off without review will not be accepted.
