Fashion Redux!
Fashion Students Reinterpret Historic Garments
May 11, 2012 – May 20, 2012
The Costume Council at San Diego History Center (SDHC) and The Fashion Program at San Diego Mesa College host their inaugural Fashion Redux! celebration which highlights the work of fashion design students who used SDHC’s significant Costume Collection for inspiration.
The celebration caps off a five-month long competition for the students who viewed three historic collection pieces and were then tasked with reinterpreting the pieces as modern outfits or accessories. The submissions have been judged by Mesa College fashion professors Andrea Marx, Susan Lazear, and Diana Cavagnaro as well as local designer, Jennafer Grace, Kendall K, and Fashion Careers College instructor and retail operator Tanya McAnear.
“This is such an energetic collaboration. We’re honored to provide these skilled design students with historically significant pieces for them to adapt their designs,” states SDHC’s Acting Executive Director, Charlotte Cagan. “Our Costume Collection is just one of SDHC’s collections of local treasures.”
All design finalists will display their creations at SDHC from Friday, May 11 – Sunday, May 20, 2012 and can be viewed with the purchase of a regular price admission ticket.
The exhibition is sponsored by The Costume Council at San Diego History Center, with additional thanks to Jennafer Grace, Kendall K, and Bad Madge & Company.
