All of the preceding photographs—as well as many hundreds more—were used in the television broadcast “Gentle Strength: Women in San Diego’s History” presented in the Winter of 1977-78 on Dick Carlson’s California as a service to the public by San Diego Federal Savings and Loan Association. As Jane Booth, Curator of the Title Insurance and Trust Historical Collection, so aptly put it as she culled through photographs for that show, “You know, the history of women in San Diego is just our history!” And so it is.

The assistance of a grant from San Diego Federal Savings and Loan Association in publishing this work is gratefully acknowledged. Unless otherwise noted, all photographs are from the collections of the Title Insurance and Trust Company of San Diego and the San Diego Historical Society.
