The Railroad Stations of San Diego County: Then and Now.

By James N. Price. San Diego: Price & Sieber, 1988. Photographs. Maps. Bibliography. 56 Pages. $6.00 Paperbound

Railroad and architecture buffs who did not see Price’s article on San Diego railroad stations in the Spring 1988 issue of the Journal of San Diego History might be interested in this book. It is a reprint of that article, which includes a brief introduction to the railroads in San Diego county, with some excellent maps which greatly enhance one’s understanding of the topic; some general notes on railroad station architecture; and brief sketches of the eighteen stations. The individual station entries includes one or more photographs, and text explaining present location, present use, and a brief note on the history of the station. The brief amount of textual material would seem to indicate that the book is perceived of primarily as a tour guide.
