San Diego History Center makes it fun and easy for families to learn about our local region through its museum displays, educational programs, special events and research library, and it couldn’t be more conveniently located.
“We continually remind people that we are in Balboa Park,” laughs Matthew Schiff, multimedia communication manager. “The San Diego History Center is dedicated to helping people of all ages learn about and enjoy the history of San Diego, and to appreciate how our past, present and future are interrelated.”
The museum offers fascinating exhibitions, including the current, ‘Dressing the Part: Costume Design at the Old Globe.” Celebrating the theatre’s 75th anniversary, the interactive exhibit includes real costumes that visitors can try on. Another favorite is ‘Walk on San Diego,” a 900-square foot interactive map that visitors can stroll across,
The museum is free to the public on the second Tuesday of the month. The center recently took over operation of the re-opened Junipero Serra Museum in Presidio Park, and both venues are popular sites for special special occasions, weddings and parties.
